Vista and SBS 2003 fax TIF issue

Vista comes with the Windows photo gallery as the default image viewer. This works great for opening and viewing those TIF files delivered from the SBS 2003 fax, but what about printing those TIF files? They get squished to a landscape view and there’s now way to modify this.

Luckily we have a full copy of Adobe Acrobat 8, which integrates into the Windows context menu, so we can right click the TIF file and convert right to PDF bypassing the Windows photo gallery viewer (see below.)

To date this is the only workaround we’ve found to this issue, if you have a way to resolve this issue without the use of 3rd party software, we’d love to hear the solution for future customers not using Adobe Acrobat.

  1. Multipage TIFs are best viewed, modified, and printed with mspview.exe…. part of Microsoft’s Office Document Imaging tools… comes with Office. Unfortunately they don’t install by default in Office 2007. I had to choose [Change] install in Control Panel and then ‘Run All’ to install mspview.exe from Office 2007 to Vista.
